Description
The first vineyards were planted in 1970 by the father Vittorio, a professor of agriculture, with a passion for work in the vineyard, choosing some native varieties, which still resist and are maintained as a genetic heritage with studies and research. Among these, Spergola and Malbo Gentile, and rare varieties of Lambrusco.
In the years between 1970 and 1976 will be implanted other vineyards including Malvasia and Moscato, with systems of double-cord breeding typical of those years.
In 1993, his sons Giovanni, a doctor in agrarians and enology and Alberto, an architect dedicated to viticulture, began the direct management of the company, converting the vines to organic farming and directly making their own grapes.
Thus, in 1993, in the garage under the house, the first spergola grape bottle was born, a classic method: the brothers’ Reserve.
In 1998 the cellar was built, and the vinification of other wines refermented in bottles by spergola and lambruschi: Quercioli, and undergrowth. In the same year, the Moscato and Malvasia passito was vinified for the first time: Aresco.
Since the early years, the vinification technique has been experimented without the use of chemistry, which will be the path followed in the years to come.
Since 2001 the first still wines for aging are born, always using local varieties: Gheppio and Nottediluna.
Since 2003 a plot of about one and a half hectares has been added, on high hills, in Broletto, characterized by calcareous soils of the lower Apennines, on which the plant is chosen some ancient varieties including the Sgavetta and le Malbo gentile.
The new vines inspire a new winemaking that in 2012 translates into the first three demijohns of rose wine for this called Tre dame.
Le Rose was born in 2014 from an early harvest of aromatic Malvasia.
In every year, small vinifications help us to understand and enhance the characteristics of the native vines.

We cultivate our vines of rare local varieties in certified organic agriculture since 1993, without the chemistry of fertilizers, pesticides, and weeds. Plant diseases are preventively treated with copper and sulfur in minimal doses. The grassing of the rows and the composting of the organic substance are vital for our soils. In the cellar the natural expression of each vintage with the care of maceration and the use of indigenous yeasts grown at each harvest.

The Matildic hills
It is in the Middle Ages with the investiture of Matilde di Canossa to the vice-queen of Italy that the hills of Reggio Emilia overlook the historical fame of castles with the defensive system of the matrix platoon see the territory at the center of battles of power and reconciliations like the forgiveness after the excommunication of Emperor Henry IV for three days and three nights at the portal of the fortress of Canossa wrapped in a snowstorm.
History lives in these hills even earlier with Etruscan and Roman testimonies and with them the inseparable travel companion: the vine.
During the centuries the vine helps to contain the Apennine movements with the tree-lined trunks still visible today in high hills.
The vine as the guardian of unexpected flavors
“In the hilly area is concentrated an important part of the wine heritage of Reggio Emilia .. just think of the annotations of Andrea Bacci of the fifteenth century in his natural history vinorum stating that in the hilly vineyards are produced particularly fine wines grapes quality choices. The complexity of the Apennine reliefs, the fantastic stories told in the courtyards and squares of Ariosto and Boiardo, represent in fact the home of important wines. “C.f. Zoning of the Collina Reggiana 2007
A hilly viticultural reality that can be expressed both for a great variability of soil textures able to contribute in a decisive way to the sensorial characteristics of wines and for the resistance in the hills of ancient indigenous varieties at risk of extinction.
