To create wines respecting nature and traditions.
The modern cultivation of wine requires the recovery and the ennoblement of the old native grapevines. In the winery Calò the historic grapevines as Negroamaro, black Malvasia, Primitivo and Verdeca, are always at the basis of the production. There are strong grapevines for important and elegant wines, able to cause intense emotions. These outcomes require a constant care and a great attention in the grapevine and in the winery in every moment of they year, to give the best, respecting nature and traditions.
VINIFICATION: It’s traditional vinification with a continuing maceration of grapes and racking-off with an evident intensity of colors and scents. When the grape harvest ends, the starting ageing of wine occurs partly (v50%) in steel containers and the remaining part in small valuable oak barrels for about 12 months. Then, at the right moment, the wine blending occurs and after a period of rest, the product is bottled and put on the market after an ageing in bottle of one year. The wine “Spano” is produced exclusively during “the most beneficial vintages”. The bottles of this wine put on the market belong to the following vintages: 1986, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007. The wine “Spano” is the result of the union of the experience and the will to create a “Great” Red Wine from our land with its feature of an unique tipicalness. It may be well-known like many other excellent red wines produed not only in Salentine land. It reveals extraordinary strongness and complexity; it is a long aged wine.
